Miss Samantha Tross
MBBS FRCS FRCS Ed FRCS ED(Tr & Orth)
I specialise in treating conditions of the hip and knee, though also offer limited upper limb treatment, such as carpal tunnel decompression, trigger finger release and ganglion excision. I have both adult and paediatric privileges and pride myself on delivering a high standard of care, resulting in excellent patient satisfaction as well as surgical outcomes.
I have a wealth of orthopaedic experience having been a Consultant since 2005. At the time of appointment, I was the first female Orthopaedic Consultant of Afro-Caribbean descent in the UK and am currently one of 6% of female Orthopaedic Consultant Surgeons practicing in the UK.
I qualified from University College London (UCL) before pursuing a career in Surgery. My surgical training was obtained at a number of London Teaching hospitals such as St. Georges, The Royal London and Guys & St. Thomas’s Hospitals. I also trained overseas at world renowned centres in Toronto, Canada and Sydney, Australia.
My training was primarily in reconstructive surgery of the hip and knee and knee arthroscopic procedures. This included minimally invasive procedures and robotic surgery. In 2018, I became the first woman in Europe to perform a Mako robotic hip replacement.
To improve the experience of my patients undergoing surgery, I provide an App, free to download from Google Play or the App Store called ‘Joint Replacement Surgery’. This describes the whole pathway for patients undergoing Joint Replacement Surgery and Arthroscopy.
Apart from my clinical work I am actively involved in Medical Education. I am passionate about teaching and am an examiner for Imperial College Medical School Finals Examinations, an Associate Editor for the Journal of Medical Case Reports and Associate Professor in Orthopaedics for the American University of the Caribbean. I am an Educational Supervisor and mentor for young surgeons and students wishing to study medicine.
I have been awarded a Black Business Award for services to my community and have been featured in the Black Powerlist which profiles the 100 most influential black Britons every year since 2011.
I have also been featured in Tatler’s 100 most influential doctors in the UK in 2013, featured in Millenium People, the Soul of our Success by Derek Burnett, the photographic exhibition of ‘Black Brittania: Inspiring the next generation’ in City Hall and International Slavery Museum 2008/9 and am profiled in book ‘Samantha Tross, Orthopaedic Surgeon’ by Verna Wilkins.
In 2019, I was the Keynote Speaker for the Mayoral Black History month event at City Hall and received a Wintrade Award for Woman in the Public Sector.
